Hello everybody! Today we're going to discuss Cabo Verde. Cabo Verde is a selection of islands close to Africa. After five days of navigation, we could finally see an island in the early dawn. This island was Sao Vicente, and the main city was Mindelo, where our lessons were waiting for us. In the morning we went with the dinghy into Mindelo's port. We went to the office where we got our lessons, yipee! Next we entered the city and found... a French library! This was stunning to see. We could even borrow books from them! After a couple of unexciting days we learned that Mindelo was preparing for its grand Carnival. As we'd never seen one big one in our life, this was super exciting. We also learned that there were two carnivals, one for kids, made by schools and another for adults. Unfair! During the kids carnival, the chariots made by schools were amazing!... and really loud! Some chariots were for instance: a wedding cake chariot with two kids on top. One boy and one girl who were waving at everyone. A bakery chariot with kids with wooden spoons and white bakery hats. There were also other chariots with fairy tales and platters of plastic food and drinks. At the adult carnival, there was a man with an enormous bread. Must have been one meter long! There was also a coffin carried by people and there was somebody in it! The person was not really dead, of course, just faking for the carnival. The adult carnival was so loud our ears nearly popped! These chariots were sooooo amazing we couldn't believe it. One of them was spices and cacao beans, another an ice chariot, and another had transports as theme. It was a boat with a helicopter and a plane attached to it, a rocket at the back, a car on the top, a train circling the boat deck... wow!!! They were small copies of transports and the boat and rocket were perched on a table. Between these chariots there were dances of woman with feathers on their costumes, etc. After this, at probably midnight, we returned to our boat and slept a lot. Over the next few days, we often went to the French library we mentioned and would have stayed there hours if it didn't close at lunchtime. But now we're going to Sao Antao on a ferry for a few days, so we have to prepare ourselves. You'll see that in some time. Keep in touch. Next report: Sao Antao! Bye!
